Mohegan Sun Casino – A Quick Escape from NYC

March 22, 2017

It doesn’t happen often, but for once we were feeling lucky. We woke up wicked early and boarded the bus with all the sequin clad grannys with their blue hair perms and bingo bags. Needless to say, we were in our element. After a couple hours we had made it to Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. Surprisingly such a short ride from NYC. (If you are looking for a quick little escape from NYC I highly recommend this trip.)

Once we made it to our room, champagne in hand and ready for a fully packed evening. Once we were finally ready, we headed to Michael Jordan’s Steak House. SO much delicious food. The chef even came out and we got to chat with a bit about all his intricate dishes. We took the opportunity to hint how much we liked chocolate. Out comes a 23 layer cake?!?

Now, we had to go work off all those calories at the Susto/Kaleo/Lumineers concert! (The venue is HUGE btw.) We are always the first and last ones dancing. We’re those super annoying people that take up way too much space with our dance moves and try and get everyone to dance with us. Anyways, we had never heard of the opening band and were super psyched by the end of their set. Definitely a band to add to our Spotify “go to” playlist! Kaleo is one of our fav bands, so we were a bit out of control during their set. If you haven’t heard of them check out Way Down We Go and Save Yourself (the live version is my favorite.) In between sets we went out to chug tequila, not thinking we could take outside drinks into the venue… you can if you are curious during your next trip. Someone stopped us mid chug to offer us their pit passes during The Lumineers! We made our way down there and got a great view of the band and even more dance room! In the pit we ran into one of the band members of Susto and ended up spending our night at the Roulette table with him!

The whole day was a blast and we cannot wait to go back!  Thank you so much Mohegan for the amazing trip!

Celebrity Edge

March 14, 2017

Bouncin’ in the club where the heat is on
All night on the beach til the break of dawn.
I’m going to Miami, welcome to Miami

What a 12 hours! Yesterday Abigail and I woke up at the crack of dawn (aka pulled an all nighter) to hop in an uber and head to LaGuardia airport. We were met by some of our favorite blogger friends, who we would take a little journey with. We boarded a private plane and were Miami bound (if you couldn’t tell from the Will Smith lyrics… and yes, we sang this the whole trip. I feel like if we didn’t it would have been a real missed opportunity.)

Celebrity Cruises had a big reveal of “Celebrity Edge” yesterday. Their new ship that will hit the seas in December 2018! As of yesterday they began taking bookings and by the end of the day a ton of rooms were gobbled up. This is the first new cruise ship they have built and designed in over 10 years. They brought on some really incredible people to help create this new incredible ship, like Nate Berkus who signed on as Design Ambassador.

Since they didn’t actually have the ship, we had to do things a bit differently. We saw a presentation of what the ship, rooms and decks would look like. But, Celebrity Cruises went a step further. I’m talkin’ VR further. We put on some horrifying glasses and giant slipper shoes and stepped into a room and took a virtual reality tour of what the ship will look like. Fully equipped with Sim like characters walking around, swimming, and flirting. Once the glasses were off we even got to walk around some mock ups of the rooms. Think bigger! The beds are now bigger, the bathrooms are bigger (thank God) and they even had infinite verandas.

The coolest thing though will for sure be the “magic carpet.” A movable deck that will go from floor to floor. The point was to be even closer to the ocean in all ways on the ship. They even face the lounge chairs on the deck out toward the ocean… way better than watching the belly flop competition.

The ship looked more like a luxurious hotel than a cruise ship. You can see more of the pics here on Travel Weekly’s post. After our tour we got to sit outside and soak up as much sun as possible in their mock cabanas before heading back to this blizzard. We also had some delicious cocktails and apps all day. Plus lots and lots of champagne on the plane! We even had a police escort from the airplane to the ship. Okay, now I’m bragging, but it was a total Beyoncรฉ moment.

Thank you SO much to Celebrity Cruises for the mini (much needed) escape to Miami! Check our Insta story while it’s still up for even more sneak peeks at the day.

Venice Beach on a Quiet Winter Day

Top and Dress, Galimier. Shorts, GUESS. Sunglasses, Urban Outfitters.

I love how retro Venice Beach feels. I styled myself accordingly in this rad animal print Galimier top, and white cutoffs. I love dressing down a loud pattern, but this shirt would also slay with some leather pants and stilettos! My constant style goal is to wear less basic tee shirts, so this is definitely a start. Check out the Galimier site here for more resort wear inspired statement pieces.

I can’t get over how quiet the beach was this day. Emily and I literally laid out in the morning, and not a soul was on the beach. Our Venice-living friend laughed at us and told us a real Californian would be in a jacket pointing at us and scoffing, “Tourists.” We New Yorkers will do anything for the slightest bit of sunshine. Stay tuned for more travel – next up is Whistler, Canada and Seattle!
