What to do in Galway

We only had two nights in Galway, and let me be the first to tell you... that's not enough! We're already plotting our return in the Summer. First on our list was a bus tour up to the Cliffs of Moher. The bus ride there is unbelievable. Winding around tiny roads with farms, caves, and even neolithic tombstone. We stood WAY too close to the edge for a few photos. On the way home we stopped at mini cliffs to catch the sunset. Next on our to do list was the Salthill Promenade on the water in Galway. If you've ever heard the song Galway Girl (which we've had on repeat for weeks) this place is a must see for you. Our last stop of the day was at a celtic jewelry shop to pick up some famous Claddagh rings! Thanks for the help, Seamus. "And I knew right then that I'd be taken a whirl 'round the Salthill Prom with a Galway Girl."

WHERE TO EAT & DRINK

We tried to see as many of the pubs as we could in our two nights in Galway. All within walking distance are The Quays, Taaffe's, King's Head, The Dail Bar, Front Door, Skeff Bar. Honestly they're all great, and I don't remember the names of all the places we popped in thanks to the numerous pints of Guinness and glasses of Jameson. You can always find live music and a friendly crowd. Be sure to walk the extra distance to An Pucan bar for some award-winning whiskey, and an amazing atmosphere. (Love their Jameson installation art pictured above.)

WHERE TO STAY

We spent our nights in Galway just uphill from the downtown at The Connacht Hotel. They have a cozy lobby with a fireplace, and a big bar and restaurant serving up some Irish classics. The room we stayed in had a private kitchen and living room, which seemed like a palace coming from New York. Totally lovely staff, plus an epic pool which we sadly didn't get to splash around in.

Thank you so much to the Galway Player for taking care of us at The Connacht, and for playing tour guide through downtown Galway. Thank you to Relovate for keeping our trip to Ireland organized!
